Foundations, Inspirations and my musical Idols

Today I watched for the twelfth time an impressive BBC documentary about musical minimalism and the influences of Terry Riley, Steve Reich, Paul Glass, John Cage, Julia Wolfe, Laurie Spiegel, La Monte Young and Morton Subotnik. I have to admit that these significant names sparked my interest in minimalist music and also gave me the confidence to start my path into sound art.

The documentary makes it clear why the aforementioned musicians, composers and artists are a foundation, role models and inspiration for my own art. I take my hat off and bow to my friends and artists of the Avatar Orchestra Metaverse, who had the incredible luck to be friends with artists like Pauline Oliveros, Terry Riley, John Cage, Paul Glass or La Monte Young and to experience together with them wonderful musical experiments, conversations, studies, exchange of ideas and to celebrate art together with those impressive personalities.

The two-part BBC documentary is an entertaining summary of why Chris Wittkowsky and I create our ambient soundscapes and sound art with tape loopers, tape engines and experimental delays. The musical genre in which we move and in which we release our musical artworks is often difficult to explain to friends and acquaintances. But this film brings everything essential together in a highly concentrated way and to the point. A jewel that wants to be seen, heard and enjoyed.
